Tempting Knitalong Details
We'll start on Tax Day (for the US, anyway), April 15th. That should be enough time for everyone to get the supplies. The pattern can be found here. I'm going to be making a button for people to put up and spread the word, but I have a midtern tomorrow, so that will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon. Please respond to this post with your details, because I plan to link back here with the button, so people who aren't already doing it can get ideas from us. Maybe the powers that be can make this post a memory once it gets off the ground, so others can find it later?

This knitalong is open to anyone, but it would be helpful to lots of us if you'd share your resizing tips (if you had to modify the pattern). Maybe share your measurements, and the numbers you're using. Also, if you're planning to make other modifications, please share those, too.  As we make progress, please feel free to share WIP pics, as well as tips for things that went especially well, or a better way to do something, or even something not to do.

It seems that a lot of people like the sweater, but are unsure of how to go about modifying it for themselves, or how the finished product will look. Who will be brave enough to try it with me? And, if you've already made Tempting, will you please add the wisdom of your experience? Consider being a knitalong volunteer, so we know who to call on when/if we run into trouble.

I think that's all we need to start. Knitalong veterans, did I leave anything out?

(I already have my stuff, and I'll put my plan in a comment.)

I'm poor, yet determined to make myself a sweater I'm willing to wear, so I got 3 six-ounce skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Light Country Blue. I decided on 3 because I made a sweater out of a 3/4 pound skein of Caron, and 18 oz. is over a pound, right?

I'm planning to leave off the eyelets and ribbon, and make the neckline higher, switching to size 7 (or maybe even size 6) circs once I get to the BO point. Also, I have absolutely no use for a short sleeved sweater, so I think I'm making this one with at least 3/4 length sleeves (about 5" longer).
Sarah Jaycriminalgrace on March 23rd, 2005 06:52 pm (UTC)
I think this would look really elegant with 3/4 sleeves.
brainybombshell: gerihappyplastiqueallure on March 23rd, 2005 09:15 pm (UTC)
And it will help camouflage the upper arm fat.

I too am poor but want to make this. I plan to buy 3 skeins of Caron Simply Soft Brites in Blue Mint. I haven't quite figured out how I'm gonna do the neck line yet but I do plan on making the sleeves longer, most likely 3/4. I'm sure I will be changin my mind a few times along the way.

We're going to make a million different versions of this thing, I'm so excited! I hope we all post pics when they're done.
Sarah Jaycriminalgrace on March 23rd, 2005 04:01 pm (UTC)
Would you like me to whip up a Blogger site for it? They allow multiple authors, so everyone could post their progress if they wanted. I'm not sure if that would be easier than trying to track things in LJ or not.
brainybombshellplastiqueallure on March 23rd, 2005 09:22 pm (UTC)
That would be fantastic! Then we could reference that with a button or something.
Roseswild_roses on March 23rd, 2005 05:11 pm (UTC)
The pattern calls for a 24" circular needle. However, if I try to do the xxl size, will a longer cable be necessary?
brainybombshellplastiqueallure on March 23rd, 2005 09:23 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking they should squeeze on. Mine are either 24" or 29", I'll check and make sure.

i was thinking of doing this in some sort of cotton, or cotton blend...what do you guys think? would there be enough stretch?
brainybombshell: craftyplastiqueallure on March 23rd, 2005 10:01 pm (UTC)
The ribbing will provide plenty of stretch, so it shouldn't matter what kind of yarn you use. Shoot, I'm using Caron Simply Soft.
Sarah Jaycriminalgrace on March 23rd, 2005 10:22 pm (UTC)
I think it depends on the yarn. I love ribbed sweaters, but the 100% cotton ones tend to stretch out of shape quickly. I'm looking for something with a little acrylic or microfiber in it for just a little more memory.

Knit A Long Web Site
I whipped up a little knit-a-long web site on Blogger today. I think the site will be a nice way for those people who aren't a part of livejournal to participate in the knit-a-long and learn about our modifications. Whaddaya think?

If you would like to post to it, just send me an e-mail and invite you in. The buttons are hosted on flickr, so feel free to use them on your own site.

Re: Knit A Long Web Site
Good job! I like it. Should we add the start date to it? How do we spread the word beyond LJ? Do all participants need access to post to it, or should we just reply to posts that are already up?
Sarah Jaycriminalgrace on March 25th, 2005 04:52 am (UTC)
Re: Knit A Long Web Site
I think participants should probably have access to make the own posts and add photos. I'll send "invite" e-mails to those who have shown interest (and have e-mail addresses in their profiles).

I think if we get the button on a few knitting blogs the news will spread pretty quickly. We could also mention it in the Knitty message boards.

I didn't see a way to join the knitalong
Hi...

I would love to sign up for the knit along but I didn't see a way to sign up on the site. Could you please send me an email about the details to sign-up. Thanks

Re: I didn't see a way to join the knitalong
You can e-mail sarah AT criminalgrace DOT com, and she'll hook you up. Some people finished really quickly, but I'm a slow knitter and haven't been able to devote a lot of time to this project, so I might not get done until Fall. Good thing I'm making longer sleeves. LOL
